From what I gather, the 'solution' to friends disappearing when they have kids, is to have kids of your own so they can all play together while the adults catch up, which grants an excuse to see them more often. Just a thought.

agreed, with the caveat that there's a reasonable point about helicopter parenting in there, and my theory is that people don't actually do that because they want to, but because everyone else is - it's middle class competition in the credentialism race.

I get what you're saying but if I'm going to interpret him charitably I think he might be saying that it's important to integrate the kid into a community and not just be an isolated nuclear family unit
