...because most people aren't smart enough / don't have brains wired to even make sense of abstraction.https://twitter.com/robinhanson/status/1206776893124546560 …

Most living humans are actually "ghosts re abstraction". That is, people around them mostly only listen carefully to them re their concrete statements. If they start to talk more abstractly, others may nod & make encouraging grunts, but mostly they aren't actually listening.

Which is one reason we need to teach rhetoric to people.

as a founder of the most abstract company i ever worked for once said, “abstraction is hard.” we were actually talking about people’s inability to deal with a programming tool we wanted them to use; this is the closest reference to it that i could find: https://vijayemmanuel.wordpress.com/2015/05/21/icad-let-streams-re-visted-with-scala-for-expression/ …

And those people should not be given loans to go to grad school. It's no different than NINJA loans in the housing bubble. Originators should take a bath for their recklessness. Instead we're talking about how to bail them out.

Nonsense. We use it all the time in every sentence. We're not animals. When you say abstraction I assume you really mean beyond some arbitrary point of abstraction?

Are brains are exactly wired for abstraction. It's what sets us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom
