2/ Where do I get my data? From reading in the field. From reading Locus, which covers the field. From talking to my agent, who negotiates foreign deals. From talking to the publisher who's translating my novels to Russian. Where do you get YOUR data?https://twitter.com/cosmicdog/status/1202047659948662787?s=19 …

4/ Sure! I've read SF by Brits, Germans, Aussies, Russians, Chinese. But just bc something is global doesn't mean that it's EQUALLY DISTRIBUTED. I'm not arguing "ONLY American men write SF". I'm arguing "They write a disproportionate amount of it".https://twitter.com/bearded_archer/status/1202050057249415168?s=19 …

Bearded Archer 🐍 🔻 ✊ @bearded_archerReplying to @MorlockPWhat about Harry Potter, JK Rowling is American? How about science fiction in Spanish? Spain, Perú, México, Colombia have some pretty good science fiction writers. Poland has good science fiction writers. That being said, the English Language market for SF is larger.6 replies 0 retweets 16 likesShow this thread -

5/ The guy who says that American men write only 2% of SF (bc Bayesianism) is claiming I'm making stuff up?
What factual claim did I make that's wrong?https://twitter.com/cosmicdog/status/1202050261729959936?s=19 …ⓘ Dogs don't have thumbs added,
Jonathan Ward @cosmicdogReplying to @MorlockPYou’re making stuff up and calling it data. You’re wrong. It’s true that a great many SF authors and books come from American men, it’s not all or nearly all or even half. I’m sorry that it offends you that the other at least 65% of the SF world is getting recognized.3 replies 0 retweets 11 likesShow this thread -

6/ Also, Harry Potter isn't SF. ...unless you're talking about HPMOR...in which case you have to drop both the "non American" and "non female" claims... Which...yes, speaks to my point.https://twitter.com/bearded_archer/status/1202050057249415168?s=19 …

7/ Also, you're doing that dishonest thing where you assume my motivations (incorrectly) so that you can signal your virtue in comparison. I have ZERO problem with women, or with non Americans winning the Hugo. But, since you like statistics >>>https://twitter.com/cosmicdog/status/1202050261729959936?s=19 …

8/ If - using your numbers - 55% of SF authors are American, and 37% are female, and about 18% are American and female, how likely is it - given fair judging - that 8 of the last 10 Hugos went to American females? < 1 in 10,000, I think. I mean..if the judging is fair.

10/ One American man won the Hugo in the last 10 years. But in my defense, look at this picture. You can understand how I assumed he was Canadian.pic.twitter.com/rjcOXOEfDf

11/ I said 90%? I don't recall doing so. Also, defining SF so as not to include Harry Potter isn't narrow - it's just what words mean. What was your piece of science of technology in HP?https://twitter.com/cosmicdog/status/1202056601655365634?s=19 …
