That story is like Aesop's fables for boomers. Purported moral is "patience is a virtue, demonstrate it to others and they will recognize and reward it." The real-world moral is "unless it is your literal dream job, don't waste time for an employer willing to waste your time."

If this guy is willing to make you wait almost 12 hours after setting the expectation to arrive at 7, imagine the things he'd make you do on the job. The salary had better be commensurate. By what logic must we only expect promptness and courtesy from the interviewee?

I walked out of the interview when the potential employer refused my salary demand. I walked into another interview and the potential employer not only accepted my salary demand but also gave a signing bonus. Employer happy, me happy, economy happy. We succeeded.
