Oh. Also: I've seen stuff over here that indicates that (at least for some programmes) applying for something and getting denied should always be followed by an appeal because most appeals are successful even with basically the same evidence. This seems like a bug if true.

So long as I live in a place where the welfare state will continue to exist in perpetuity, the Murray model of the UBI will always be preferable to me for exactly these reasons.

I actually like having a welfare state, and think this would explain a net win per dollar over how we spend money now for exactly these reasons. Liking welfare doesn't make government magically competent, much though many people seem to think it does.
