2/ you know how Paul Atreidies wants to take his hand out of the Pain Box, but - to prove that he's human - must override his instincts? I see that in a lot of contexts. A minor one: red lights. People want to go SO BAD that they keep lurching forward 6" at a time.

3/ This is how we separate animals from humans. Humans know that that lurching does nothing but betray the fact that they can't control themselves, and thus prevent it from happening.
