sigh me: this situation is a recipe for abuse and puts the people "in charge" in the awful position of having to make horrifying decisions/tradeoffs to get through the day someone, inevitably: oh wow, you condone horrifying things??

recognizing that awful things are happening is like step *one* in the process of making things Good but if you don't even try to grok *why* normal, non-evil people would make those horrifying decisions...

frankly if you aren't even willing to consider what it might be like to get cornered by forces well outside your control into deciding between "bad" and "worse" I don't trust you in a position of trying to change a complex system

it is legitimately world-shaking to learn that being sufficiently outraged at evil, determined to protect the vulnerable, and committed to the forces of Good...is not *remotely sufficient* and I feel for people who resist that it hurts like hell

it feels like being cheated, to have all this righteous rage and then find yourself unable to aim it at anybody because you understand them too much you can fight an evil person but a feedback loop of dysfunction makes for a very unsatisfying enemy
