2/ I hate rationalists for a variety of reasons (so close but so wrong; "die heretic scum!" and I push them off the bridge) but I like that their writing is so calm. Reading a lot of Gwern the past few days.

Many situational issues in my life over the last couple years have severely limited my ability/desire to deal with news/daily debate. (Have also made alcohol and caffeine use something to be monitored).

Magnesium glycinate may be helpful. Also, zinc & vit D vital. Good to get D levels tested to see if they're too low. About 50 is good. I take KAL mag glycinate. https://amzn.to/2PWB26aIt Helps increase GABA. (Magnes malate I took wired me.)

Great info. I take D and it helps. Did ZMA and realized later that the catastrophic GI issues were not keto but were ZMA. Stopped ZMA. Is mag citrate better?

1/My sympathies. Emotions motivate us. But when it's not the optimal emotional response, or when strong emotions cloud higher-ordered thought processes, then they're not serving us. It is possible to re-calibrate them. To have different, or less charged, emotional responses.

2/You can change emotional responses by changing how you think about thing you're reacting to (by reframing), & by conditioning different responses to various triggers. You can also change thought patterns & attention, to avoid excessive attention to emotionally charged news.
