I've been hearing stories like this for the last two or three years. Computer Science professors having to teach freshmen what a file system is. Are you ready for a world where the elderly dominate coding? 1/3https://twitter.com/hacks4pancakes/status/1190055381684424704 …

They say the generation who was best with cars grew up when cars didn't work that well (broke down all the time, and you had to fix them, etc). Makes sense that the same would apply to computers.

In "A Deepness in the Sky" Vernor Vinge actually describes an advanced interplanetary civilization that collapses due to accumulated technical debt throughout their infrustructure. It's a incredible story.

He describes the collapse of multiple civilizations. One was due to smart dust, ubiquitous surveillance & civil unrest, another was due to collapsing infrastructure & technical debt. I think the infra civilization is the one they join together to try to save?

ok, cool def remember the first one; had forgotten the second one. Time for a re-read! oh, also, if you like Vinge, perhaps I may recommend my own novels?https://twitter.com/MorlockP/status/1154061890202591232 …
