3/ And my answer kind of surprised me. By age 12 or so I'd read most of Heinlein and * took to heart the "a human being should be able to..." quote * loved Moon is Harsh Mistress, wanted sequels, thought I might write them myself * read SF with entrepreneurs, decided to be one

The issue with that quote is, it takes ages to get good at something. Without specialization, you can be at best a dilettante. As was Heinlein. And for most people, being able to write software isn't even an option. http://www.overcomingbias.com/2009/07/stupider-than-you-realize.html …
