I have read this before and it still doesn't address the economic arguments, only moral ones (which only really apply if you're catholic). Also he makes several statements which don't hold up to any kind of scrutiny, even accepting his framework.

Why would a lender loan if they didn't get something out of it, in return for not having access to that money for the period of the loan? If you loan me $1000, you don't _have_ that $1000 so long as I have it. Don't underestimate the value of economic liquidity.
