Uh, what? Your growth in 401ks isn't taxed at all. Disbursements 40 years later are. This is an INSANELY good deal if you rebalance your funds at all (and you should). It allows principle to compound tax free. If you want to invest outside a 401k...go ahead.https://twitter.com/ChroniclesNate/status/1151293948268294145 …

But if you really want to, there are accounts for that (Roth).

I've run the spreadsheet too, on Roth vs regular IRAs (paying taxes now or later). It really just depends on your individual circumstances. But (as long as you definitely won't need the money before retirement) either are better than keeping funds outside a retirement account.

Do you believe taxes will be higher or lower in the future? Do you believe inflation will continue? Taxes and inflation are the two largest eroding factors for retirement years outside of healthcare If your dollars are stronger now; pay the taxes and enjoy retirement tax-free

Trad vs Roth IRA is a legitimate question as tax rates currently low. But Roth is vulnerable to gov't changing the deal and deciding to tax you at the end anyway. With Trad IRA/401K you take money away from gov't NOW. Who knows what future holds?
