One minor thing that I really hate about the current culture war is that both sides have lists of if-then talking points. On the blue side, if you talk about abortion or even unborn kids the immediate response is "creepy Christian war on women's bodies".

"People aren't illegal" ignores how English works. If someone is renting a home, the _legal_ agreement with the landlord makes them a "legal occupant". It doesn't make the _person_ legal; it makes the _occupation_ legal. The adjective modifies the verb embedded in the noun.…
