Not to mention, if you didn't have a rooftop antenna, adjusting the set-top one for each new station. This is why it really mattered for TV programming if you had a great (popular) lead-in show. It was too much of a PITA to change stations.

The difference, of course, is money. I remember both what airwave subscription TV was like, and exactly how much work one would go through to see the nudie bits for free.

We had a remote in 1985. It had a cord that connected it to the tv, but my dad still kept it in a drawer so we wouldn’t lose it.
