I don't have an interest in dunking on incels, gamers, or anyone else, so I don't want to say the following in the above context, but separately and in good faith I'd argue that liking overlaps a lot with consumerism and I quite dislike consumerism as an identity

and it's hard! Merchants are incentivized to say / do whatever works to sell product. They have a few fans? OK, great, let's "work with the fans". But that CREATES an on-ramp for fanddom. Humans "snap to grid" w identity formation. Schelling points beckon - for good reason!
