eh ; as a guy who spends a non zero amount of time around tools, I LIKE roll over protection on my tractor, safety guards on my angle grinders, fall protection when I'm in a tree, a helmet when I'm under one and chainsawing to each their own, but I choose activity + safety https://t.co/px26SAXC0P

I walked out of a welding shop just in time to see someone sink an angle grinder into their thigh, this is why we adjust the guard instead of removing it.

I've come so close to catastrophe so many times. Took the guard off an angle grinder once WHILE USING A CHAINSAW WHEEL. Thankfully when that hit me my shirt mostly choked it to a stop.

you'll notice that the workshop first aid kid is open and spilled out across the work bench right now ... along with one bloody piece of paper towel :P

I have a variety of scars, it’s part of the job, but I also have all my fingers. Which is a close thing, because I almost took the tip of my right index finger off on a vertical bandsaw, cutting an irregularly shaped object. Made it about halfway through my fingernail.

> variety of scars oh, hell yes my "favorite" is the question mark shaped scar over one eyebrow I explain that that's where some asshole hit me with a pipe (I leave off that his name was "Travis")

actually maybe that's #2 and #1 is the weird set of scars on the thumb/index finger web of my left hand if I shape the hand as if it's holding a block of wood at the compound mitre saw, various scars line up in the shape of the edge of a mitre saw blade that was an exciting day

wood pinched the blade, the blade stopped dead, the energy got dumped into torque on the saw arm, which ripped at the cast iron base, which shattered, and the motor and blade flopped over sideways ONTO my left hand FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
