Suppose you're a 45 year old system administrator. One of the helpdesk dweebs asks you how to level up his career. You think: Did I earn this job through above-average work ethic, high intelligence, or just by logging enough time and showing up?

The reason I'm pondering this is because I have crippling doubt about whether I have what it takes to really succeed in this field. I would *like* to think that being a stubborn midwit is enough to get me an 80k job. Eventually. But I'm not very sure.

Right; everyone I know in the Army looks back and says "basic training wasn't that hard; it just sucked a little." But we all graduated basic training.
