expressed in high school terms, the three major schools of ethics are: * "you're not my dad!" (deontology) * "it's better to be a jock / cheerleader than to be lame" (virtue ethics) * "mom, I REALLLLY need a car, so I can volunteer at the soup kitchen and stuff" (utilitarianism)

1) Any utility function that can't produce "markets work better than anything else we've tried for this so far and so we should use those unless we find something superior" is broken 2) Any untility function that can't produce "setting that precedent would be BAD" is also broken

I mean, I'm well into "I'm right and everybody else is wrong" and/or "no true utilitarian" territory here, but mine manages to produce both of those fine (and 2 is a lot of how it also produces "in your day to day life, just use virtue ethics, it'll work better")
