2/ You specifically said that the failure of future worlds to shoot trash into the sun strikes you as unrealistic and that it bothers you [ because it's so obviously a good solution ]. https://twitter.com/Swordsfall1/status/1167423132283498496 …

3/ And my argument is "the Sci" in "Sci-fi" (or "Afropunk Sci-fantasy" for that matter") stands for "science", and if one is going to attack other people's constructed SF universes for not having "solar recycling" because Science!™, it behooves one to learn some science.

8/ First of all, I think Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. are trash Second, this thread wasn't ME criticizing SF for not being sufficiently sciencey; it was
@Swordsfall1 doing that, because OBVIOUSLY shooting trash into the sun is good science. (wrong) https://twitter.com/MisterFawx/status/1167426977290018816 …ⓘ Dogs don't have thumbs added,

9/ So I appreciate
@misterfawx,@codeimpossible ,@kiernaned, etc. saying "it's a dick move to criticize the science in someone else's SF universe". And maybe you're right ! So please tell@Swordsfall1 (a) to stop doing it, (b) if he's going to do it, to learn some science.11 replies 0 retweets 16 likesShow this thread -

As the creator of spaceships with glowing blue sails that have to be worked by hand, I think I have the credentials to critique others' freaky science shit. My issue was: It's not recycling. It's literally the opposite. I could posit a world in which shooting garbage into 1/

2/ the sun is a reasonable solution. Dense population, no room for disposal, virtually unlimited energy for launch, and a consume/dispose culture. But that's a lot of conceits for the reader to get by.

and if we've got unlimited energy, then why not just incinerate at home? At sufficiently high temps all compounds are broken down. Not a great idea for lead or uranium, but for 99.9999% of trash, a dandy approach (we actually burn bioweapons and chemical weapons, vent to air!)

If we have unlimited energy, I’ll just posit nano-scale disassemblers that break down all trash to component elements for recycling and reuse. Science!

Well that was my suggestion in the other thread and it got me blocked, so you're obviously a bad person.
