Thing is, a lot of people don't read the contract, and others think they have no choice but to accept it. They're conditioned to think that way. I know for a fact that I'm the only person in my workplace who negotiated contract terms other than salary.

Landlord-tenant leases are classic examples of contracts of adhesion. Unfortunately many adults are NOT competent in contract-reading. Many people are just not smart enough to understand leases, and they are often written that way intentionally. This is just our reality.
