theory 2: aggressiveness in conversation is correlated with other beneficial things - like sickle cell anemia and malaria resistance. E.g. one puts up with an aggressive VC friend bc he also throws off money and jobs

in my experience there's a class of people who take advantage of many people's reluctance to defend boundaries because it makes them feel uncomfortably rude & aggressive, and it's easier to overlook the offense - you can tell yourself, a lot, that you're doing it just this once

typically when i encounter people who don't care whether i might have boundaries or not, rather than feel rude by shoving them back, i just go away, and they miss out on interacting with me.
