i think maybe this whole mobility notion is left over from a time when we had relatively high-IQ immigration, and new arrivals from other eurocultures proved to be somewhat mobile?

Or maybe when there were more decently IQ'd people than there were decent IQ-requiring jobs, and as more such jobs became available, people working less rewarding jobs moved to better-paying jobs?
