Occasional reminder that if you want people to have conversations with you, it needs to be pleasant to have conversations with you. Otherwise you're shooting for a muting.
Given that you had muted him I don't understand what negative affect my use of an "@" sign in the message made. re > obnoxious ... completely ignoring..."fuck that" as a third party observer, I'll just note that that does not square with my observation. I find Brian to be >>>

one of the calmest nicest people I know. You, on the other hand, are made from the same mold as I am - hot-headed, passionate, quite willing to tell people to !@# themselves ... and, sometimes, perceiving attacks where none are intended. I like and respect both of you.

... so my TLDR here is "maybe Brian was arguing in good faith and was not purposefully ignoring your points, and there was just a communication flaw". ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Something to think about.

If someone says they don't want to talk to me, I would not appreciate being @ ed in a conversation with them.

still don't understand how the at sign in the message did anything to effect you. You've muted him, right? And I think he follows you and me both. So the "@" sign literally didn't do anything.
