3/ It took my almost 30 years to learn a smattering of woodworking / welding / ghetto machining / diesel engine maintenance / gardening / butchering etc that made my lifestyle of some small interest to several folks.

4/ But on the other hand, I also poured 14 years into running a small business that amounted to precisely nothing, and which set me a decade or more behind my peers as far as earnings and savings. So, I guess my take-away is that long-term efforts have more VARIANCE.

Twitter is really fucking weird because you can get advice from people who act like running a bunch of startups and giving TED talks is normal And it feels like they're right, because everyone else they know on twitter (and who you keep seeing RTd into your feed) acts the same
