At the bookstore the other day I picked up Neuromancer. Gibson's introduction, 20 years later (10 years ago) was great. And then I read a few chapters. And ... man, it's a radically different book read as a 48 year old than as a 13 year old.

I've had a similar experience, but with TV shows. As a kid, I saw none of the depth in Babylon 5, but in college it became crystal clear. I'm re-watching Home Improvement now and I can actually understand its humor.

Sorry, that's "Deathworld" by Harry Harrison. Death planet was a RPG module a friend composed for Twilight 2000.

It is really interesting to read Dune as a historical allegory and not as sci-fi. It's basically a retelling of the 16th century!
