I wouldn't do it on Patreon. You want to own your customer relationship, for one, and also it doesn't have the right vibe of professionalism and independence

Crowd sourced news. Uber/AirBNB/Kickstarter/etc of news. Central app aggregates content, handles liability/payment/etc, contributors are rated, single go-to reputation source, customers pay a small flat fee. Killer app in waiting.

The big problem with trying to do this on the cheap is dependence on access to infrastructure owned by highly biased entities that will simply shut down any account discussing things they don't like, as seen with Nick Munroe.
