SMH at an author who gets the specs on Russian and Chinese military hardware precisely right making such an error. Not even a calculation, a look-up. This strikes a false note like "he's a colonel in the US Navy," "Glock 17 revolver," or "Blaser R93 shotgun." (It's milfic.) 🤔🤨pic.twitter.com/cU4VRKFYy0

Compare for example with @KarlKGallagher and other scifi authors making sure their numbers are right. And in their case they have to calculate them.pic.twitter.com/cqlVWEVUnS

One very generous interpretation would be that the author meant climbing vertically 200 m/s (while maintaining Mach 1.1 airspeed), for a pitch angle of 32°, something very easy for a Sukhoi Su-57. But that's stretching the meaning of those words.

Now, some authors make worse errors ("luckily for Bob, Nina had left the safety on her Glock 17 on" 🤡), but others make sure their numbers are right because there might be a überdork somewhere who takes the time to numerically check the book's fluid mechanics 46 years later.pic.twitter.com/JWaVC0sBlg

BTW, for people who don't understand the similes, the Glock 17 is a pistol, not a revolver; the Blaser R93 [Tactical] is a rifle (very sci-fi looking one, so it's overused in movies and TV-shows, like the FN P-90 and the Steyr AUG), not a shotgun, and colonel is not a Navy rank.

The annoying thing is that other than a couple of these "should have looked that up" numerical blunders, it's a good book, believable motivation, smart strategic, operational, and tactical actions on all sides (not just the US side) and AC Clarke-type character development. 🤓

AC Clarke-type character development: just the details that matter to the story, possibly a minimal physical description too; show their motivations, personalities, etc by their actions, don't tell life stories much less pop-psych remembrances of characters lives past. My fave.

      Replying to @josecamoessilva @KarlKGallagher

I read a book that had the side door on a Harrier open so that the guys inside could shoot machine guns 🤔 https://www.amazon.com/Faller-novel-Will-McIntosh/dp/0765383551/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=Faller&qid=1564739689&s=books&sr=1-2 …
