I'd like to personally apologize to @Logo_Daedalus for having sinned against him. I am entirely worthy of his condemnation.
He's 100% right. We DID foster three kids: an 8 year old, a 6 year old, and a 2 year old.
For six months we changed poopy diapers, cooked meals, >
3/ took them to playgrounds, and to the beach, and to museums. We attended parenting classes, met with social workers, took them to doctor appointments, bought them toys, played board games with them, tucked them into bed. All because we're horrible selfish people.
4/ And then, when the social workers failed about 500 times in a row to get us meds for these kids, to get us counselling, to get us the paperwork that would let us enroll them in school, to give us the authorization to get them extra tutoring in class >
5/ when these three kids with ADHD, PTSD, Attachment Reactive Disorder, and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome proved too much for us - at least, too much when the ADHD was untreated, when the trauma was untreated, when the PTSD was untreated, when the special classes weren't offered,
6/
when the therapists for the kids to help them deal with their issues that been promised, did not materialize
we reluctantly told the social workers that we would not be proceeding with the process.
Good call, @Logo_Daedalus , you really nailed me to the wall
7/ as a horrible person. I'm sure that you'd do better trying to help out such children. Speaking of ... can you tell us all about a time when you've helped out such kids?
we never did adopt them; we were foster parents for 6 months just like the people before us just like the people after us
