Help is really hard to find because wages haven’t risen. Wages haven’t risen... probably in part because undocumented workers accept lower pay. The two things are related, not opposites. I want more immigration of all kinds, but the contribution to low wages seems clear.

NH is a bit far from immigration of any kind. Unless one wants to employ Canadians, eh?

In CA the big winners seem to be huge commercial farms like Cowshwitz^W Harris Ranch.

It’s every farmer that benefits and consumers at the grocery store. I don’t see a solution without immigration: I don’t want domestic babies growing up to be farm hands, but hackers, I want those jobs as starters for new immigrants with work permits and a path to citizenship.

and I want a pony. Any kind of agreement on immigration is impossible: i suspect status quo — subsidized big commercial farms and “under the table” pay works too well for anyone to change it, however I am not a farmer nor have I tried hiring a farm hand, so I’ll keep my opinions.

And thank you (myself included) for illustrating my point. May be don’t speak authoritatively on hiring farm hands if you haven’t?

Most crews let the workers do all the heavy, dangerous stuff so many were unwilling to help frame the house I built with my dad. We actually worked alongside one another as equals. Found one amazing guy who had superhuman powers practically, and four of us built the entire thing.

He made $30/hr roofing, could lift two pallets of roofing tiles up a ladder at once - one on each shoulder and no hands on rungs. He worked with us when he didn’t have roofing jobs.

2 at once? damn 1 at once is the most I've done.

Yeah, one at once sucks!

OTOH, I like using hands on a ladder

I actually won’t roof. I’m fucking clumsy, trip a lot, ankles give out. I’d fall. My father wouldn’t let me up there.
