1/ One of bet bits of life advice I ever got was from Heinlein via, I think, "The Door Into Summer". Guy goes into cryosleep for a century wakes up, skims a history book for a few hours, gets up to speed, marvels about how much time he'd've wasted reading the paper every day.https://twitter.com/NateSilver538/status/1154379846673412096 …

2/ There's going to be a Dem primary. Someone's going to win. That person is going to go up against Trump. One of the two of them is going to win. Over the next 4 years things will muddle through, with some good and some bad. Opposition party will pick up a few house seats.

3/ There is NOTHING that you paying attention to polls about Dems in the primary today can do to affect any of that. Every single second you spend wondering if Bernie's poll numbers are good or bad is a second of your life wasted, gone for good.

4/ Paying attention (a) makes you dumber, (b) wastes your life, (c) changes nothing, (d) legitimizes - in your own mind, at the very least - the relevance, importance, and legitimacy of the system.

5/ Paying attention when you're powerless to change things is stupid.pic.twitter.com/mNOellghPD

6/ Go plan a tasty dinner, and make a shopping list. Step outside and weed your garden. Concentrate on your work and make progress in your career. Chat with a friend, because it's fun, for both of you. Do NOT pay attention to poll numbers of a bunch of weirdos.

ⓘ Dogs don't have thumbs added,
SHelmuth @shelmuth85Replying to @MorlockPYup. I was listening to talk radio for 6+ hours a day – Rush/Sean/Levin, etc. One day soon after the 2012 election, I decided it was stupid because what I do has far more effect on where I will be in 10 years than anything happening in DC. I’ve hardly listened or cared since.3 replies 1 retweet 13 likesShow this thread -

8/ OK then, by all means, pay attention to the twists and turns of the Dem primary. That'll absolutely help and I now retract my entire thread that it's a waste of time.https://twitter.com/Fla_Mom/status/1154388366005342208 …

Fla Mom (Gab Fla_Mom; Parler FlaMom) @Fla_MomReplying to @MorlockPWell, except with *this* plan, you don't know anything until you're in the Gulag/dead/suffering, wondering what happened (see much of the world for current examples). A lot of small stuff may not matter, but the trend is truly life and death.4 replies 0 retweets 17 likesShow this thread -

9/ I mostly try not to discuss object-level events and news, and use object-level facts only to illustrate meta-level / patterns / concepts. "Bernie might win!!!" is terrible. "Late state capitalist societies have a tendency to ..." is interesting.https://twitter.com/BoredGreyface/status/1154410568192864257 …
