Time to post about the REAL highlight of the convention: Gaslands!pic.twitter.com/jA7z66uwa1
I laid out a race course, made some pregenerated teams, and set up a table where I could run a demo game for anyone interested. I ran it twice! Once for some of my con buddies, then later that day for some teenage kids. (course: left to center, loop around, then back to start)pic.twitter.com/nDtBp0rD2n
Everyone really enjoyed it! Each game was three players, each with a team of two cars. I didn't play; I ran it as a GM to keep the game flowing smoothly. I didn't have to teach all the rules, just enough to get them into the game. (pic: templates, tokens, dice, & duct tape)pic.twitter.com/PP6LL5dUFQ
Each game went about ninety minutes. We didn't finish the course, but in each case we found a good place to stop. Everyone was impressed with the tremendous amount of damage and mayhem that happened right out of the starting gate.pic.twitter.com/EeFs7uJdzR
The perfect finale, though, was when everyone's car was on the back loop, severely damaged and racing past each other. The truck hit an approaching enemy with a flamethrower and that car wrecked, rolled forward, and exploded.
The car's inertia brought it close to the truck, so the car's explosion damaged the truck... which wrecked, rolled forward, and exploded. That brought the truck into explosion range of one of the other cars... which then wrecked, rolled forward, and exploded.
This chain reaction continued until EVERY LAST CAR on the field had been caught by the previous car's explosion, damaged, wrecked, and exploded. We could not stop laughing as this played out. I was in tears. I had to sit down. By universal agreement we ended the game there.pic.twitter.com/Z0yvqaK1oL
Hopefully I'll get to play Gaslands a lot more (and actually play! although I had a great time just running it for everyone). But even if I never play again, I'll always remember that glorious symphony of fire and destruction. These are the moments gamers live for.
if you come to HUN we can have a gaslands game
