me in a meeting: "Oh, you didn't understand the reference to Taylorism? Well, he was a guy in early 20th century who figured out the one best way to shovel and then made an ass out of himself" me, 15 minutes later, checking on farm hand: "Uh...there's a better way to shovel"

4/ Watched him through the window. 35 seconds to move a single shovelful and return to position. Went outside, grabbed tools, loaded 10 shovels into wheelbarrow in 23 seconds, walked it 200 yards in < 2 minutes, dumped it. "I brought you a wheel barrow."

I was about to ask how people can't grok the concept of a wheelbarrow, but then I remembered like 1/2 the people I went to college with and have worked with.

People don't like to be told what to do. This can be problematic both for them and for you. The trick is to trick them into thinking that it was their idea.

I once worked as a labourer on a building site. I was 18. I was going to University and knew I had a lot to learn in life. My job was to mix the 'darbo' (cement in northern English English). I asked a man many years my senior to bring me a wheelbarrow....

He did. He had put it in a wheelbarrow. Maybe the boy's onto something.
