This morning, on my walk to work, a driver blew past a stop sign while I was walking through the intersection. As is my usual practice, I rapped a few times on the back window.

He actually slowed down and rolled down the passenger-side window, so, in the spirit of Ray Dalio’s Principles, I gave him some earnest feedback on his driving skills. Then his passenger threw a bottle of iced tea at me, which is not a part of Principles I remember.

I tend to think of shaming norms-violators as the conservative equivalent to giving money to panhandlers. You can’t solve the whole problem yourself, but you can help just one person out.

my absolute favorite violation-shaming (tho it goes a bit further than shame) was when a car at a stop light started accelerating, and passenger dropped a large DD iced coffee (1/3 empty) into the gutter I grabbed it, squeezed hard to pop the lid, and tossed through rear window.
