I don't like giving the kids candy or letting them watch TV, but threatening to take these things away is a great way to enforce behavior. I realize this makes me sound like Noam Chomsky's idea of America's ruling class.

But that's a good argument against Chomsky. Better to be ruled by dads who just want peace and quiet than by toddlers who want to see what happens when you put a green bean in a USB port.
