I’m not saying anything yet other than that these USDA figures seem actually not far from correct to me https://fns-prod.azureedge.net/sites/default/files/media/file/CostofFoodMay2019.pdf …

Context: Everyone has been home for almost 2 weeks due to paternity leave and although the new guy isn’t eating food yet I absolutely cannot keep food in here

"cannot keep food in here" I also imagine that your food storage volume is pretty minimal, bc city? So there are really two distinct issues: $/week, and shopping runs / week. We fill the trunk on each shopping run, and then offload in nearly infinite storage at home

I have a non-walk-in-pantry's worth of dry goods in basket on shelves, have a bad tendency to hoard snacks, sauces, stuff like that. I try to use things down but never really succeed so i'm probably about replacing each week

We've got a pantry closet in the kitchen. ...plus two chest freezers, one dorm fridge, and maybe 8 restaurant shelving units of food in the basement. Amusingly, we shop once per week (bc fresh stuff), but we bulk buy X one week, then Y the next (e.g. 10 mayo or 20 soda).
