Built a shelf for the garage. Single shelf, 6' wide, 22" deep, welded 1" square tube frame, 3/4" plywood bottom, hangs on a French cleat. Finally, some place to put tractor hydraulic fluid, tractor oil, car oil, riding mower oil, gear oil, oil filters, fuel filters, air filters >

2/ tire bead seater, windshield fluid, etc. Every project has a sub project, so (a) had to move pine planks for remaining bookshelves out of way, (b) finished off a spool of MIG wire and had to swap. Dislike new stuff, so saved old spool to add info to welding page in wikipic.twitter.com/iD28XpUtDU

3/ Since I was 13 or so I always wanted to have a ton of tools, and infinite supplies, and I guess I'm pretty close to there...and it's kind of exhausting, because maintaining the infrastructure that maintains the infrastructure that maintains the infrastructure is...whew.

5/ Topic 7-c : tall infrastructure stack is also wide. Footprint goes up with square of height. Takes a lot of time / energy. Whew. Shower time, then delays (bc Stephenson) Friday night whiskey.

This is the story of my life, maintaining the maintainers. Replace the belt in the Bridgeport head so I can mill a hole for the bandsaw coolant pump, so I can saw a bar to replace the DRO spacer, so I can drill cross holes for the bandsaw blade guides, so I can do my job.

I’m not all that far away, if you need a hand (or any aluminum stock).

Certainly, no trouble. Though, if you get antsy around HUN, I can take a look.

So, the deal is that when the DRO was installed holes were drilled and tapped in the head, near the quill. There was some accident somewhere along the way and one of the tapped holes - near the edge of the casting - cracked. I tried to rebuild w JB weld and retap, but failed.

Oh, I’ve dealt with similar, moving machines to Iraq. Drill and tap a bigger hole and make a plug, loctite, thread in, cut flush. drill and tap hole for DRO scale. I realize many things come ahead on the list, this is a good shitty weather project.

Cast Iron is a pita, as long as plug encompasses old hole in the diameter, you’re golden. Edge of casting is difficult, but not impossible.
