2/ This is actually very very disconcerting. Walls seem nice and solid. FLOORS seem nice and solid. And yet, with a sawzall and 10 minutes, you could remove your kitchen floor and look into your basement as you do dishes. That's...terrifying.

Agreed. Wife has been worried one of the back "doors" at the construction is particle board held by 2 screws, and I'm like "what about the 10' x 6' window right next to it?"

My gf knows about lockpicking and such. Every time she gives me grief about leaving the door unlocked at night I'm tempted to show her how easy it would be to pick the lock or get in through the sliding glass door in the back. Our real 'security' is me, the dogs, and a pistol

Is that quote from Alexander? That he's billed as the origin of Design Pattern might make it off-putting to everyone who had to deal with FactoryFactories and Simpl^H^H^Hngletons - but this is closer to original GoF Smalltalk/CLOS patterns.
