2/ So some other person who lives in the same city as you once ran into the guy who played Fonzie 40 years ago. Someone had a funny moment with a "doorman". See? See! It truly is a city like no other, the center of the entire universe! THE ONE RIGHT WAY TO LIVE!!!

also, there's something "seeing like a state" about how the sociopaths move in. They have templates, they know how to monetize X and Y and Z ... but not Q. So Q gets dropped, and F (also monetizable) gets added. Does your subculture have collectible figurines? IT WILL !

Yes, absolutely! ...does your Hate Up have challenge coins and t shirts? IT WILL!

yeah, i remember as a (v young) kid being somewhat disturbed by people i considered to be normies getting into playing D&D, which in turn made me feel like more of a normie. coolness (perceived, of course, only from inside the subculture - lame dorkiness from without) diminished!

This isn’t new, either. Remember, Bluegrass, as we know it, is only about a decade older than Rock’n’Roll. and labels and radio were quick to exploit its appeal to large group of people who’d left ‘home’ looking for work.
