Nine princes in amber is good although fantasy instead of sci-fi. The Long Earth is neat but has weak characters/plot. There’s a lot more inter dimensional trade and stuff in Ward, the sequel to Worm.

I disliked that book so much I actually threw it away after I finished. My main issues were 1) he didn't do much with the premise, and 2) he kept pounding us over the head with increasingly literal/pedantic explanations of plot twists.

“he didn't do much with the premise” - this is a Stirling specialty isn’t it?
