Douthat has a interesting thread (and article), but - as always w The Gray Lady's Acceptable Conservative - it's a plan for how the right can compromise One Last Time with communists and reach an understanding where we only tear down HALF the statues, shred HALF the Constitution.https://twitter.com/DouthatNYT/status/1133746398674006016 …

2/ I'd honestly just prefer a civil war. Sure, we'd lose, and we'd all be sent to camps and/or killed, but at least we'd take out a million or two soybois and bluehairs, and the go down in history as having tried something other than One More Compromise!™.

The author aspires to universal empire. Rome, Greece, the notion of expanding the American Empire... The cost, of course, is America itself, which may already be lost. I dunno. Maybe it could be done. Maybe it's a slightly lesser evil. I don't know that I care anymore, sir.

He is attempting to rewrite history, and after reaching the point where there is no such thing as an "American Nation" and never was, I turn to Webster's 1828 dictionary definition of American. I hate those who lie and say my nation never existed. http://webstersdictionary1828.com/Dictionary/American …

The United States empire is not, and never was the American Nation referred to in the preamble of the Constitution. Ourselves and Our Posterity existed just fine without it.

Correct. However, does the nation that existed in 1828 still exist today? Can the American Empire be unwound back to the Republic? I don't think it can. That's the core of
#BTFSTTG. This is not salvageable anymore. Maybe it was in 1960. Not in 2019.1 reply 0 retweets 4 likes -

Oh the empire is dead, the question is just how long they'll stand around the corpse applying electricity to make it jerk. The nation though, that's always been my concern. I see the death of the empire as a net positive for the nation.

As for whether the nation exists, I am American. I have no other nation to be. Maybe it dies with me, but I don't think so.
