ⓘ Dogs don't have thumbs Retweeted Ross Douthat

Douthat has a interesting thread (and article), but - as always w The Gray Lady's Acceptable Conservative - it's a plan for how the right can compromise One Last Time with communists and reach an understanding where we only tear down HALF the statues, shred HALF the Constitution.https://twitter.com/DouthatNYT/status/1133746398674006016 …

2/ I'd honestly just prefer a civil war. Sure, we'd lose, and we'd all be sent to camps and/or killed, but at least we'd take out a million or two soybois and bluehairs, and the go down in history as having tried something other than One More Compromise!™.

We wouldn't lose. The rural areas are the majority of the country and control the food, water, and fuel the cities need to survive. History shows that every modern war hasn't gone well for the urbanites.

An agricultural South got rolled by an industrial North. It would not do Rural America any benefits to engage in straightforward warfare w/Coasts. Only chance at success is to go Intifada and become way too expensive to govern.

What you are describing is Fourth Generation War as described by William S. Lind has already come to the United States. The failure of the cities to maintain basic law and order doesn't bode well for any attempts to project power. Particularly when you look at the following map.

Average US enlistment by county. The cities are underrepresented. Anyone who thinks that a military of rural folk would turn on their family and nieghbors is a fool.pic.twitter.com/vzKJSFybJU

While there are more Californians that enlist than say people from South Dakota, where do you think the Californians who join the military tend to fall on the political spectrum? Militaries are inherently conservative institutions because they exist to preserve the State.pic.twitter.com/zPxciAJOVf

Another thing to consider is that state borders are like African borders. They don't reflect cultural borders which are more important and are where conflict zones would erupt.pic.twitter.com/5yESC72Rfr
