2/ Problem solved! User 'Henro' over at tractorbynet suggested "Forward/reverse pedal not in center position?" I hopped on, rocked it back and forth, let it settle into middle, started immediately.

3/ Safety interlocks are fine. I'm OK with a world where the tractor won't start up and start immediately spinning the PTO, etc. ...but what I'd like is an extra $3 spent on diagnostic LEDs so I know WHY the tractor won't start.

I think that tractor has a safety interlock to shut the motor down when it gets out of level. I had this happen and the fix was to pull it out of the mud and get it back to a level condition.

possible! ...but it's barely out of level. Front wheels are down 3-4" from rear.
