Above the window, I’d actually consider a simple shallow floating shelf to display painted minis...
I’d go oak, stained to match the other trim. The grain would really pop when stained, too. Definitely one over the window, although it might have “darken” the room a bit. I would definitely add accent lighting if I did that.
Pine is already in my garage.
Oak is too pricey for my budget.
