2/ I've got three decisions: a) bare wood or milk paint b) bare 1x12s (as all the other shelves I've built), or crown molding up top and face frames to provide a more finished look to the shelves. c) a pair of tall shelves flanking window + 1 below, or that PLUS 1 above window

1/ I voted milk paint, face framing and stay low. 1) The primary species around here is southern yellow pine. Not terribly attractive and better covered. If your lumber is nice enough to go uncovered, please ignore my vote. 2) That’s a nice looking room.
