We have high speed rail in Fra. Of course heavily subsidized and built by massively expropriating lots of land.
And even with our small country which is close to the ideal application, it's still expensive to ride while being a taxpayer money furnace.

Granted, Thailand is comically corrupt. If this gets completed, it would absolutely be an achievement. Chinese HSR is running circles around the US because their model is not focused on actually being*profitable*. Hence why tickets there are also very reasonable.
