#amwriting came up with a name for the new prog rock band for Doug Stuart-Test to listen to in Ari 3 and 4. A very good nerdy music pun. You'll groan if you get it.#CircleOfFifthsIsBullshitShow this thread

It's an accession council. It doesn't preclude primogeniture. If the next king has a son, his son would be a leading candidate to take over.

given likely heritability of traits that lead to good rulership, it's not even that stupid (but still vulnerable to regression to the mean, bad selection effects in the dynasty over time, &c.)

(I still maintain that the civilization to solve continuity of competent government will be the first one to last forever)

Game of Thrones doesn't have primogeniture, afaict. Looks like Salic law to me. (Early on Sansa asked what if she only has girl children by Joffrey, and was told that in that case Joffrey's brother would inherit, if I remember correctly).

Now that the unifying threat that excused the rule by the varying levels of inbred psychotics is no more, it looks like a good time to break out the guillotines and eliminate the remainder who think they have an innate right to rule over anything.
