Sometimes this happens when you try to make an abstract point and it plainly just whizzes by them. Today it happened when someone cropped up on the brain cancer forum to ask if s/he can get life insurance *post-diagnosis*

I’ve actually seen this a number of times by now. They aren’t bad people, they know they “should” have life insurance. But

I've recently come up with a theory. High g people think that everything is g loaded , so you meet someone who can dress themselves, make polite chit-chat, pick nice decor for their house, not crap on the carpet, and you think "competent person like me!" >>>

2/ but there are "co processors" in the brain that handle tidiness, socialization, manners, etc. and so these people SEEM to satisfy all the requirements for intelligence, but actually in the "pure rationality" part of the brain (g) there's very little going on.

I mean, most things *are* g-loaded right? but at the same time it's proper and good that life doesn't strictly require you to be a genius, and there's a problem to the extent modern life *does* increasingly require this (fucking health insurance, how does it work)

but I am similarly depressed by the ubiquity of lack of capacity for clear thought and would rather not see it any more than I have to. so when someone seems reasonably smart I believe it until I can't

the reality check is that even those life insurance brain cancer patients are probably like 75 percentile intelligence or higher. to be thinking about it, asking clearly of others

I see three solutions: * IQ plague that uplifts everyone * exit to Aristillus / etc * hierarchy where we expect much less of people but also limit their power to create chaos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuwLrXX63UY …

I’m slightly more hopeful, even though I recently sat through a painful parents mtg at school where my wife & I were the only ppl using ‘think’ in discussing a controversial issue. Everyone else had only feelings. The hope: a lot of this results from K-12 regurgitation training.
