good thread one thing I'd add is that drinking is like eating, in the sense that you can add something to your system and not really know it for 15 minutes ("I'm not full yet, but I will be") Be the PID controller. You aren't adding altitude, you're adding thrust.https://twitter.com/random_eddie/status/1125123280011190273 …

some say it's a disease but I imagine it's symptomatic result of a form of manic depression or bipolar egocentricity or some such. (I'm prolly more emotionally stunted than physically addicted)
-
when i was younger i was always of the opinion that one could always get more drunk / high, while my primary drinking buddy at the time preferred to hit a plateau and stay there

Same here, over a certain threshold and it's just not much fun. Or I fall asleep.

For me the physical symptoms actively dissuade me well before there's any noticeable effect on my judgment. I don't understand people who can just keep drinking. I get all "I can't feel my face anymore. That means I should stop."
-
it's just tolerance. they don't get that face numbness from the first 11 rum & cokes...

I used to push really fast (it's not about speed, it's about thrust), but I've noticed that over the last couple years I'm feeling that physical aversion more and more. I can only enjoy it when the conditions are right.

yeah, these days i need the right conditions, too. might be an age thing, i dunno
