Mobs are most successful at targeting low-power-level targets. Mob Thiel or Trump and they shrug it off. Thus someone giving the advice "never bow to mobs" is signalling their own wealth / strength of personality / willingness to tolerate risk. Sure, but this says only to ignore the mob if you are very powerful. The advice to most everyone else then is to cower.

ah, sorry yes, but I think that in general signalling is often more effective when the signaler feigns ignorance of some key detail. if someone says "follow your passion [ if you, like me, have a trust fund ]" they don't seem as passionate and free spirited
