I think a big problem with therapy as the answer to all emotional problems is it’s fundamentally predicated on the target being wrong.

It’s not gonna work to tell guys who are depressed that they don’t have jobs or girlfriends that actually this is just their mind playing tricks.

Of course a lot of people are in fact really wrong about a lot of things including their own lives so it often will work

I don’t really buy the “Everything was better when people had a priest” trad view but one clear advantage of priests and rabbis over therapists is they’re socially authorized to give general life advice rather than using a strictly limited medicalized framework.
